An epic week of sailing, swimming and partying in the British Virgin Islands.

To start off the new decade with a memorable experience, I participated in 'The Yacht Week' in the British Virgin Islands. I went to a crew finder page on facebook and found a group that was looking for a solo male traveler. From January 3rd to January 10th, I sailed around the islands on a yacht with 9 other individuals that I have never met before. I believe I enjoyed the trip more, because I had the opportunity to meet a lot of new people. It forced me out of my comfort zone, and I'm very grateful for the experience.
I flew into St. Thomas a day early, so I could meet some of my other crew members before we boarded the yacht. The next day we took a ferry to Tortola, so we could check into our yacht. We booked a Lagoon 450 and filled it with $3600 worth of food and alcohol for the week. You know I had to make sure we had some Hennessy!

I don't think there was a better way to experience my first sailing trip. I was able to meet and connect with people from all over the world. The weather wasn't always perfect, but we enjoyed ourselves no matter what was going on (watching the Saints lose in the playoffs again did put a little damper on the mood, but I bounced back). I mingled with other crews, played "Marco Polo" with liquor, took way too many gin shots and somehow I made it out with all of my memories.
